The first Cape Town Sotheby's Decorative and Fine Arts sale took place on the 22nd March 2005 in Kirstenbosch Gardens. The sale was well attended.

Although the sale comprised primarily of furniture with fewer paintings on offer than usual, the demand for quality works was high. Works by artists like Battiss, Skotnes, Naude,  Pierneef and contemporary works by William Kentridge were in high demand resulting in good prices.
