The Castello di Rivoli Museo d'Arte Contemporanea is currently hosting a William Kentridge retrospective exhibition. This exhibition is a major survey of all his oeuvre with a particular focus on recent works such as Sleeping on Glass ( 1999 ),  Shadow Procession ( 1999 ),  and Zeno Writing ( 2002 ), 7 Fragments for Georges Melies ( 2003 ) and Journey to the Moon ( 2003 ) - the latter reminiscent of the world of early film. The artist also premiered a new animated film, Tide Table, 2003-2004, in which Soho Eckstein,  so prominent in earlier works such as Mine ( 1991 ) returns. Tide Table presents a South Africa haunted by AIDS.  A unique installation of his drawings and sculptures, designed by the artist,  is also on display.

The exhibition, organized by Castello di Rivoli Chief Curator Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, is accompanied by a major new publication, including artist's writings, an anthology of critical writings and new essays by the curator and by South African writer and cultural historian Jane Taylor.

The exhibition will subsequently travel to :

Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf
( March 27 - May 31, 2004 )

Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney
( September 1 - November 28, 2004 )

Musee d'Art Contemporain de Montreal, Montreal

William Kentridge Film Festival @ Spier
William Kentridge has created a series of extraordinary animated short films using his unique charcoal erase technique. Collectively they form one of the most important bodies of work ever created by any South African artist.

Despite being shot on film, these works have never been projected as a film and never viewed as a single body of work. This will be the first ever 35mm projection of 9 short films as a single work of 60 minutes. Also included are the recent 2003 films Journey to the moon and Tide Table.

Spier is privileged to premier this film in their open air amphitheatre. It will be accompanied by a string quartet performing the soundtrack composed by Phillip Miller.

The show will only be on the 6, 7 March 2004 and booking can be made through www.computicket.com or at the Spier box-office boxoffice@spierarts.org.za
