In one of the most unusual art exhibitions in Cape Town, the Association for Visual Arts is hosting an exhibition and auction of sixteen milk cans transformed into unique works of art by some of South Africa's leading visual artists and craft groups.

After a successful opening on 10 May the works can be viewed until Saturday, 29 May 2004 at noon. The auction will take place at 7 pm on Wednesday, 26 May 2004, with all the proceeds going to the Peninsula School Feeding Association, a registered welfare organization.

12 artists invited by AVA to transform the milk cans are:

ARLENE AMALER-RAVIV, TYRONE APPOLLIS, BEEZY BAILEY, WILLIE BESTER, KEVIN BRAND, PAUL DU TOIT, FRANCINE SCIALOM GREENBLATT, LOUIS JANSEN VAN VUUREN, MARK O’DONOVAN, SELWIN PEKEUR, CECIL SKOTNES and JILL TRAPPLER. In addition, the craft collective, HANDS, and beader, KHONI MDLUDLI, each decorated a can, using colourful beads and intricately beaded wire. The final two cans feature colourful collages made up of reproductions of individual drawings by children from 80 Western Cape primary schools where sponsor, Clover, ran a children’s art competition.
