Born 1899 in Vienna, Austria Died 1980 Cape Town, South Africa. Krenz was a painter of people, Still life and landscapes. He worked in various mediums and also produced some graphic works. |
|
|
Between 1915-16 he studied art at the Kunstgewerbeschule, Vienna and between 1918-19 at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. In 1929-1931 he furthered his studies at the Amédée Ozenfant's Academy in Paris. After arriving in South Africa he briefly taught in Stellenboch and in 1952 he opened the Krenz Art School in Rondebosch. He was a member of the 1952 New Group with fellow artists Gregoire Boonzaier, Joyce Ord-Brown, Maurice Hughes, René Graetz, Terence McCaw, Jeanette Pope-Ellis, Lippy Lipshitz, Florence Zerffi, Frieda Lock, Walter Battiss, Alexis Preller, Ruth Prowse, Charles Peers and others. He toured, worked and exhibited in various countries like Italy, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Haiti, Israel and Spain to name but a few. |

He received the following awards : 1926 - The Vienna Prix de Rome 1958 - The title Professor ( Honoris cause ) by the Austrian Government 1967 - Medal of Honour for painting, South African Akademie vir Wetenskap en kuns. |
