First Sale of the New Millennium Andries Loots  Week of 12 March 2000   STEPHAN WELZ & CO. In Association With SOTHEBY'S

On Monday 6 March 2000  the first Sotheby's Auction of the New Millennium was held in Cape Town. The hall at Kirstenbosch was packed to capacity with eager buyers. 

This auction saw some " new comers ", who haven't been around at previous sales  like Bertha Everard ( 1873 - 1965 ), Edith Luise Mary King ( 1869 - 1962 ), Ruth Everard Haden ( 1904 - 1992 ) and Freida Lock (1902 - 1962). All of them stood their ground and prices were higher than normal and showed that there is no limit to the value collectors are attaching to good art.

A few highlights :
The prices include the 15 % buyers commission on lots  less than R 2000 and 10% on those in excess of  R 2000 as well as 14 % ( VAT ) on this commission.
